Photography from a Professional

Keeping up with the photography aspect of advising publications has always been a challenge for me. Professional photographer Dave Seibert's presentation was an inspiration. Not only did he show an entertaining package put together by photographers (Why can't Kansas have boat races like this?), but provided excellent ideas to use in the classroom. I will definitely implement the (cq) requirement after names. If the pros have to spell check, students should have to also. Of course they were always supposed to, but... The addition of the (cq) tag is just another way to make the students accountable. I think I will change it to (cs) or (nc) - checked spelling or name correct - so students will be reminded what they are doing.

While I teach the different types of composition, I loved the way he mixed up the examples and had us offer up what they were. I traditionally have introduced the types, shown examples and then had kids find them. Having everyone identify them together on the big screen takes some pressure off, and less grading!
