It gave me a fun idea for an assignment. Why not have students take a typeface and match it with a visual "letter" to spell out a word describing the font?
I also think it would be interesting to ask students to match fonts with celebrities and to explain how they match. I love this stuff! I had wanted to be a graphic designer when I was a whippersnapper, but chose a different path. I like how being a journalism adviser lets me play in that world again. I really value learning from an expert like Tracy Collins so I can help my students see how much fun design is. But even more importantly, I want them to understand its storytelling power.
