Photography is fascinating to me. How wonderful that with one click you
can freeze a memory in time and preserve beauty forever. It is a form of art
that a majority of us enjoy, and the fact that cameras and software are now
more available and affordable allow us to practice for hours at little expense.
Our week-one photography presentations were exceptional. Both presenters
emphasized light, composition and emotion as the three
most important components of photography, and then went on to show specific
examples of each type and tested our ability to identify the techniques used. Nicely
done.
With the emotions chart highlighting the different levels of
human instincts and the impact of an effective crop, we can put a personal
dimension and a depth of detail in our work.
Using different angles (surrounding area, close individual, audience and
venue), clarity of the subjects and the benefits of using over-the-shoulder
shots for impact, the photography basics of patterns/texture, Rules of Thirds,
leading lines, selective focus and framing can magnify the moment’s wonder.
I believe photography is critical in our publication world. Effective headlines
and meaningful copy are enhanced when a vivid photo is used in a story. Visual and
verbal tie-ins make pages pop and content more powerful – a winning combination
for true.
Here are some shots from our game night practicing a few lesson tips – enjoy!
