A helpful textbook

As I mentioned in a comment on Spencer's post about story-mapping, I got that technique from the book "Writing and Reporting the News: A Coaching Method" by Carole Rich. More than many texts on reporting and writing, it offers good exercises for students to develop skills. I think this book gave me the idea for the reporting simulation as well.

Because it's a textbook, a new version costs an arm and leg. But I've found copies on eBay for less than $10. It may be worth picking up for planning lessons.

    I just started using this book this year as a test. I like a lot of it and the pages are very easy to read. But, after reading the radical write, I think this book should not be used alone.
