Bailey's article response

That is beautifully written, Bailey. So often we learn more from others and their experiences rather than experiencing something ourselves. Mandella's positive attitude despite his suffering proves this.

This morning I too was inspired as I was reading Anne Lamotte's book, "bird by bird." Her words from a chapter on her dealing with the deaths of her best friend, her father and a close couple's son.

She wrote another friend told her to "watch closely now" as the situations with dealing with death and dying and loss and despair can often be examples that teach us how to truly live.

Lamotte said that about a month before her best friend Pammy died, she tried on a dress and asked Pammy if she thought it was too tight, if her hips looked too big in it.

She said Pammy looked at her and said, "Annie, you don't have time for that."

We should all stop and breathe (as Dan Gillmor said and Meghann put in her post)and focus on how fortunate we are.
