Know your boss, adjust your style accordingly, expert advises

According to Kristen Gilger, (above) associate dean at Arizona State University's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism, a great boss demonstrates to subordinates the following important characteristics:

Competence

Communication

Compassion

Courage

Effective employees understand their boss and know how to get a long with them, she said. If you don;t know much about your boss, ask other people who have known them much longer than you have.

"You need to adjust your style to your boss... Bring solutions as well as problems." she said.

This may be the best session yet!

  1. I agree with you on the importance of bringing the boss proposed solutions along with problems. It's difficult to get my students to do that even though we expect those in our professional programs to act accordingly. It would give them a competitive advantage if they could do so going into their first jobs.
