I was a little concerned when I looked at the Reynolds agenda for Friday and saw the talk "Law of the Student Press". I work in a private school and to be honest, pretty much all of the topics discussed for the first part of Mike Hiestand's presentation was fairly irrelevant to our publication and program.
However, Mike was engaging and informative and I never felt tuned out. I had heard of the Tinker case before, but to go more in-depth to that as well as the Hazelwood case, which I had never heard of before this week, made for a truly fascinating lecture.
But I really got a lot out of the copyright section of the talk. I'm sure some other teachers here an relate, but many times this year I had students who simply wanted to rely on Google Images for providing art for their stories. I'm pumped to use some of the "ammo" that Mike gave us today the next time I have to explain why using others images without permission is not OK.
Also, Creative Commons is *awesome when students are having trouble coming up with an image for a story.
