Why Journalism is still a great career

I enjoyed Christopher Callahan's question and answer session this afternoon.  I especially liked when he discussed why journalism is still a viable career option.  He said that to parents, journalism is their city print newspaper, but to students, the idea that journalism is changing is exciting.  He said, "Journalism is a much larger field that is expanding in so many ways."  I also liked what he said he would say to future journalists:  "Consume news.  Produce as much as you can."

What Callahan said about Walter Cronkite was interesting too.  He said that "It was all about the people around him."  He never talked about himself.  He said the journalism school could be named after him on one condition:  That it would be a professional journalism school.

  1. Couldn't agree more. Despite many people saying journalism is dying, Callahan provided ample proof that it is alive and well. High school students in journalism programs will be prepared for the 21st century skills they need, and if they want to continue in the field, I'm suggesting ASU!

  2. It was also really nice to hear the nice words about Walter Cronkite. Too often, we read about celebrities that lack such qualities; however, it was comforting to learn that he was a humble and decent man.
