This summer ought to prove especially rewarding...I am so thankful and I feel so blessed to be a part of this learning experience in Arizona. I feel especially needy since they informed me that my Journalism class will become an IF period adventure due to budgetary cuts. FUN! However, I can do all things...right? RIGHT?!
Looking forward to meeting all of you. Peace and Love and Newspapers.

Cute dog! I'll miss my 10-year-old yellow lab Kali, but not my 1 year-old Aussie/border collie mix Gibson. He is the devil! (OK, maybe I'll miss him a little)
ReplyDeleteSummers are important for recharging. I swore off professional development this year, having attended the AP Institute training each June for the last three years, but when this opportunity presented itself, I thought, "This is exactly what I need!"
I look forward to Phoenix and all of its challenges. It will be fun to be a writer again, having left that work to teenagers for so long. I fear I might regress to 15-year-old compositions.
My students are great, but they are significantly challenged by interviewing. Facebook has been a curse, since they would prefer going on a social network site to "get quotes" over talking to someone face-to-face. I wish I knew how to better combat that. I'm hoping some of you have some good ideas.
Off to work! We are in school until June 19, but my principal has graciously agreed to pay for those three days I'll be in Phoenix, so I have to finish the year early. YIKES!
See you soon!

Hi Melissa,
ReplyDeleteI completely understand your sentiments about summer vacation. Last year, I took a much needed "relaxing" summer break, which essentially means that I cut back on my responsibilities and took the summer off from professional development. Not true this summer!
I'm looking forward to learning, but I think most of all, I'm looking forward to the ability to connect and develop working relationships with other advisers. I go to so many conventions each year (JEA/NSPA, etc) but I always feel like the other advisers there are complete strangers. I'd love to be able to get to know people so that when I get to Boston in November, I know someone other than the teenagers I've brought!
