Q & A with Dean Callahan

I really enjoyed Dean Callahan’s Q & A session this afternoon. I am glad that I’ll be able to go back to my school and tell all of my aspiring journalists what the Cronkite School has to offer them. While I love the idea of sending students to a traditional “college town,” I am really beginning to see what this campus has to offer.

For starters, there isn’t another opportunity for students to be within three blocks of a newspaper, website and TV station (hello, internship opportunities!). I also love the idea that - for those who do want a more traditional experience - Tempe is a short ride away, but they can get away from that environment when they choose.

The dean seems very approachable and understanding, and that may be the part I like best about pitching ASU to my students. I can tell that he is involved in campus life, and I think that is important in a leader. He also seems to be sending the Cronkite School in the direction that young people want: multimedia-driven education.

Oh, and then there’s this guy:

What more could a student want out of a J school?
