I was several years into my Associated Press career when the first PCs started making their way into newsrooms. That and everything that came after -- websites, word-processing, spreadsheets, social media -- forced me to adapt, especially to teach young adults who grew up with this stuff.
Video has been the greatest challenge so far, but I've gained a basic knowledge of editing by finding excuses to dive in, such as showing how to get from the hotel (where my bus stops) to the Cronkite School while maximizing shade. Plus I wanted to get that Vine video of Anita to stop looping on my desktop.
We're fortunate at the Cronkite School to have Final Cut Pro, which you'll train on. But I've made movies in Windows Moviemaker, iMovie and iPhone apps. With each I just found some excuse to dive in that had a pleasant potential outcome, such as something cute with the cat or kid, a vacation slideshow, etc.
So if video's new to you, dive in while you're here. It's pretty fun once you knock down a few walls. And it's a good way to put off more important things such as finalizing Reynolds Institute session plans.

I really would like to post something, but even after following the directions I am being asked to create a domain name and start my own blog along with picking a template. Is that right or am I more challenged than I thought I was? #frustratedinTampa
ReplyDeleteThere's an optional session Monday night at which I'll get anyone still having problems set up on the blog.
