1st Day at Cronkite

Today made me very excited for the rest of the institute. I have already been given so many ideas for my first year as a journalism teacher and newspaper advisor. The sessions have been a little overwhelming, but I also feel so amped about all the information that I am taking in.

Today's brainstorming session was very helpful for me. I had several ideas for a story but could not pinpoint a focused topic. While working in our small groups I felt more confident about my story and how to develop it. This does not mean that I am 100% certain of what I am doing, but hey it's a start! I will definitely be using the brainstorming/mapping activities that we used today in my classroom.

My goal now is to talk with others at the institute and ask them about possible sources for my article. My topic is on how professional newsrooms motivate their staff and we can use those strategies in our own classrooms. Steve gave me one possible source, but if any of you have ideas I would love to hear about them.

I read this article about motivating journalists and I think they have some great tips. The article discussed how we should be instilling confidence in our journalists, which I hope most of do. also, we should try pitching in and and showing the staff that you can do the job also. I like this idea! Hopefully this will help me brainstorm ideas! I would also like to explore how team building can strengthen a newspaper staff.

Enjoy!
