I just received my books for my two weeks in Phoenix. I'm nervous about the workload, but I truly believe it will be one of the best things I've done for myself professionally. There's so much I need to know. I've been a yearbook adviser for 14 years, but I'm new to newspaper advising. I'm really looking forward to meeting so many people who, like myself, want high school students to understand the importance of being a good journalist. Outside of my journalism class, I want all students to become well-informed members of society by recognizing and reading quality writing.
See you next month!

You know you're meant to teach journalism when a box full of books feels like Christmas!
ReplyDeleteMany participants are in your situation, Kathryn. That's been the case every year, and it's one of the reasons ASNE puts on the institutes. You'll find that the workload flows with the experiences you'll get here and doesn't turn out to be as menacing as it appears. Please bring cool weather with you.
