Greetings from SBHS

As the end of the year ramps up speed, I find myself scurrying like a rat seeking the path through its maze.

Today was our seniors' last day of classes, which meant taking final exams and inputting grades. Tomorrow will be hectic enough with graduation barbecue, award ceremony, and practice while still maintaining a semblance of control over my remaining freshmen, sophomores and lone junior working industriously in journalism on their end-of-the-year projects, design proposals for the 2013-14 yearbook. One week of classes remain for all grades other than senior.

This marks the first time we have tried spring delivery and my fourth year as journalism adviser. I have to admit, it will be nice not having to worry about finishing the book after classes and students vanish for the summer.

Journalism students create three products: printed newspaper, online newspaper and a yearbook. Average class size runs twelve to fifteen individuals each semester; we have four 90-minute blocks.  They are a hardworking group who take pride in their achievements.

I am looking forward to honing skills and improving instructional abilities as a journalism instructor as well as meeting like-minded individuals.
